Varroa Destructor Mite

Parasitic Varroa mites (Varroa destructor) can now be found in both the North and the South islands of New Zealand.

The mature female Varroa mite is 1.6mm and reddish brown. She sucks the blood of both developing and adult bees, weakening and eventually killing all hives that are not treated with suitable miticide treatments.
